The 'right' words

A Macleans headline from yesterday reads:

Renegade MP O'Brien was small-c conservative in Liberal party

When Belinda jumped ship, the media decided Belinda was a 'moderate' conservative, escaping an 'extremist' party -- but when O'Brien takes a walk, there are no questions about the extreme agenda the Liberal party is pushing.

It's so typical that O'Brien is labelled a small-c conservative, and people in the Conservative party who hold similar views are called 'social conservates' and 'the religious right' or 'right wing extremists' (or bigots, fascists, or homophobes).

This bothered me alot as well. The other thing is, why don't Kilgour and O'Brien want to sit as Conservatives?

Harper won't guarantee their nominations, meaning, they could see themselves out of a job. This already happened with a Liberal who switched (Baird, I think was his name). He wasn't guaranteed the riding nomination, and he lost to someone else.
This way, if they decide to jump back on the Liberal ship, they have a place to go.

However, C., Kilgour says he's not running again (how credible is that? I don't know) and O'Brien's Lib riding prez says there's no shortage of candidates on the Lib side and there's already an acclaimed CPC candidate. I don't see O'B going NDP.

For simple optics I would like to see these Liberals sit as Conservatives pending nomination confirmation.

If just half of the SSM Liberal demons sat as Tories, the house numbers would become scary enough to have the government drop the legislation.
Thats the goal, isn't it.

Unfortunately, I read differently today. Apparently, John Pacheco (a Christian activist) was not 'allowed' to seek the nomination in Ottawa (?North West?) because the provincial candidate wanted to jump to federal politics. I don't know if there was a nomination vote or anything, but Baird is listed as the candidate on the website.
