I've changed my mind -- I don't like Jack

I have to admit, I don't like negative election ads. Long before the shenanigans that brought about this most recent election, I despised the Conservative *He didn't come back for you* ads. They just seemed so unnecessary, plus, I don't like the voice of the guy they have doing the voice-overs on their negative ads.

Anyway, today I saw the new Conservative ad about Jack Layton and the NDP and I decided to go look it up on conservative.ca. I'm glad I did. It made me think. A couple of google searches and I landed on Stephen Taylor's pages where I found myself re-reading things I'd completely forgotten since I shrugged off politics and went back to real life.

I remember 2008. Back then, I still paid attention to politics in a way that I haven't since. I still got angry at the sanctimony and piousness of the left. Once the talk of the rancid coalition fizzled, I sort of dropped out of current events. Burn out, I guess. Many of us spent a lot of emotion from 2004/05 and by the beginning of 2009, I'd had enough.

There are a lot of people out there like I've been this past couple of years. Disengaged. When you stop paying attention, you're also inclined to forget. I'm glad the Conservative attack ad made me remember and prompted me to google NDP strategist, Brian Topp, and his smug little book *How we almost gave the Tories the boot*.

Jack says he's *ready to be PM*

Hopefully, the blue Grits will come on over . . . because given the choice between the Liberals with their bad policies like(cap and trade) and their regurgitated promises (national daycare) and Jack Layton with his socialist agenda and soft talk on Bill 101 while he flirts with destiny . . . you won't recognize Canada when they get through with it.

Yes..politics is exhausting.

Yes..it would be wonderful to live in a world where parties do not use negative campaigning to win...particularly as a last resort when all else fails. Perhaps you know of a country or government where they do not or have not used this method? I sure do not.

In my opinion becoming "disengaged" from politics for awhile because of "this or that" is more the hallmark of a spoiled populace living in the comfort of a democracy. And those that for whatever reason become disengaged deserve the government they did not vote for. Because for some reason they just got "cynical" about politics and stayed home!

Politics and government are not about parties sucking up to people to get elected...(though they do do that)..but about people getting off their asses and actually seeing through the bullshit they are offering. In actual fact most parties depend on people's lack of interest in politics.

Kim Campbell said it best...at the end of the beginning of the end of the old PC party...and she has been scolded ever since...though she was right! "Elections are no place to discuss policies"..or something along those lines. I paraphrase a bit. People have to decide who they want to win first. And God help our country if Harper does not get a majority this time around. Can you imagine Jack in the PMO? We will be bankrupt in a year!

What I am worried about is the passion of the NDP'ers who hate Israel. They have been doing their damnedest to get us to support Hamas and Hezbollah.
I shudder to think about Layton with the power to help destroy the only democracy in the middle east.
And not one reporter asks him about the scariest issue on this planet!
For God's sake, we need to wake up!
This election has some life and death parts to it.

A PROUD CANADIAN COMMENTS
by Rob McElheran on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at 3:05pm

I wish to make one thing very clear.I have not been as involved in politics like MANY others.I respect the fine work done by them and am sorry I was a typical Canadian who paid no attention to the plans of others until an election was called.I really didn't care as long as it was good for MY country.

However, when it became apparent that a party of TRAITORS had a chance to DESTROY MY COUNTRY I had to do something.

So I joined the Conservative party of MY country of Canada.

I will do ANYTHING I can to save my country.

I AM CANADIAN,AN DAMN PROUD OF IT.

You & me, both. I woke up when the opposition voted non-confidence with polling numbers that made no sense at all unless they were planning on dusting off their coalition agreement. Had to call BS on that move.
